About
Every day I create.
My career has been inventing, designing and building prototypes, film props and models. I have over 30 years of professional design and fabrication experience.
Growing up, I was that kid who was always taking things apart to see how they worked – and how I can use what they did in another way. This has led me to a career of using things in ways they weren’t intended.
My career has spanned from being a concept model maker in the movie industry working on over 40 films, to co-founder of a location based virtual reality company that integrated real-world, trackable props and sets with free-roaming VR game play. I’ve also collaborated with inventors and product designers, developing a variety of products for market - from snow globes and cable box concepts to folding toilet seats and ion powered mobiles. I’ve been handed everything from a literal sketch on a napkin, to fully rendered images and asked to design and build them.
One thing I really like to do when hacking products, is to make the finished piece look as “factory” as possible - as if it had been designed that way from the start. One client needed binocular camera modules installed into various laptops and tablets as demonstrators for investors. There isn’t much room in any of those devices, so it required careful excision to make them look like the new parts belonged, rather than looking hacked. I have always enjoyed the challenge of melding functionality with artistic design.
Some of my recent personal projects include: rebuilding my daughter’s scooter for more power + adding lights for a little bling, making my life size drivable R2D2, and restoring my 1969 VW Karmann Ghia. I have also constructed a trebuchet, catapult and egg cannon for an epic food fight. I am never without a project!
